Yes, the landlord is going to have their own master policy that covers them for the property damage to the structure. You may be able to claim on the landlord’s policy but at the same time, you don’t know what the landlord’s policy says, or maybe the landlord’s policy is limited and has exclusions for different things. So it’s better to be safe than sorry and have your own coverage as well because sometimes it’s easier to deal with your own insurance company than it is to deal with someone else’s.
