My Unit was Damaged in a Hurricane. Who is Responsible?
If your unit is damaged in a hurricane, the condominium should have its own property damage insurance. That’s supposed to ensure the common areas or any common elements of the property associations responsible for so any damages to that portion of the property, the association is responsible for it. Now as a unit owner, you are generally responsible for the interior of your unit, which is, the surface of the drywall going in. So any damages from the hurricane in that space would be your responsibility as the unit owner. I would highly recommend that you have insurance for your unit to cover those damages from a hurricane.
